According to the latest GfK data, Nintendo Switch Sports is this week’s No.1 in the UK boxed charts.
Nintendo Switch Sports is the third biggest UK launch within the franchise, only surpassed by Wii Sports and Wii Sports Resort. Both of those games sold particularly well and ended up selling more or less the same during their respective launch weeks. Nintendo Switch Sports sold less than half the units compared to either of them.
However, Nintendo Switch Sports managed to do a lot better than the previous entry Wii Sports Club for Wii U. That title didn’t enter the Top 40 during its launch week in 2014.
Compared to other party games, Nintendo Switch Sports sold twice as much as Mario Party Superstars and almost eight times more copies than Just Dance 2022. It also outperformed Ring Fit Adventure by selling almost six times more units over the same period of time.
It is worth noting the first week’s sales aren’t a good performance indicator for this type of video game. All of the games mentioned target casual audiences which means that players are not likely to rush out and purchase them at launch.
Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga slipped to No.2 this week with its week-on-week sales being down by 25% due to the successful launch of Nintendo Switch Sports.
Gran Turismo 7 climbed to No.3 with a 152% sales increase week-om-week and Horizon Forbidden West came in at No.4 with its sales up by 52%. This is likely due to the arrival of more PlayStation 5 stock.
Kirby and the Forgotten Land re-entered the Top Ten with its sales rising by 31% and Cricket 22: Official Game of The Ashes comes at No.26.
