Mario Golf: Super Rush tops UK physical game sales chart

Mario Golf: Super Rush

The latest Mario sports title on the market has managed to dethrone Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart after a two-week stint at the top of the UK’s game sales chart.

Mario Golf: Super Rush is the latest iteration of the Mario Golf spin-off series, packing in enjoyable golf gameplay with fan favorite characters from the Mario universe. Unfortunately, these titles rarely have huge launches, and Mario Golf: Super Rush has followed suit. The game’s first week of sales are 17.5 percent higher than the last Mario sports game, Mario Tennis Aces, though the number of people with a Nintendo Switch has risen significantly since then.

The next big Nintendo Switch exclusive is The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD, which launches on July 16, 2021. The game is expected to turn a lot of heads and bring even more people to the Switch user base.

Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart finally saw a sales dip, with sales down by 78 percent week-on-week. The game lands in third place this week, though considering the run it’s had in the last two weeks, it’s done extremely well to maintain its position. The title will likely see a sales boost when more PS5 stock becomes available.

FIFA 21 saw sales rise by 10 percent week-on-week, moving up to second place. The title saw a small discount recently but is probably benefiting more from the European Championships’ popularity at this time.

In terms of new games, Scarlet Nexus debuted in eighth place. 58 percent of sales were for PS5, 21 percent for PS4, and 20 percent for Xbox. The game is part of quite a specific niche, and will no doubt see sales rise as time goes on.

The Olympic Games: Tokyo 2020 The Official Video Game made it to eleventh place, a good run for such a seasonal title. The game will probably hang around for the next couple of months before falling off into obscurity. 51 percent of sales for the game were on PS4, 29 percent on Xbox One, and 21 percent on Nintendo Switch.

The remake of Alex Kidd, titled Aled Kidd In Miracle World DX, debuted in seventeenth place. The title will have a niche audience who have wanted to see the game come to modern consoles, but a wider appeal may still appear.

The last game of note this week was the Nintendo Switch port of Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1+2 Remake. Sales shot up by 394 percent week-on-week thanks to the Switch version’s launch, pushing it back up to twenty-ninth place in the chart.

The rest of the top ten looks familiar, with some games such as Assassin’s Creed Valhalla getting a boost from a piece of free DLC. One final surprise appearance is Cyberpunk 2077. The game’s sales are up by 374 percent, landing in twenty-second place, thanks to it being reinstated on the PlayStation Store and the fact that developer CD Projekt now deems it in a satisfactory state.

The top ten best-selling games at retail in the UK for the week ending June 26, 2021 were as follows.

1. Mario Golf: Super Rush
2. FIFA 21
3. Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart
4. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
5. Animal Crossing: New Horizons
6. Assassin’s Creed Valhalla
7. Minecraft Nintendo Switch Edition
8. Scarlet Nexus
9. Ring Fit Adventure
10. Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury
