GTA 5 topped European PS4 downloads in December 2019

Last month Grand Theft Auto 5 was the most downloaded game on PlayStation 4 in Europe. Considering the age of the game, more than six years old, and the competition it was up against, this is extremely impressive.

Rockstar Games’ latest Grand Theft Auto game was downloaded on PlayStation 4 more than FIFA 20, and even November’s most downloaded game, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare in Europe. In the US things look slightly different, with Activision’s shooter coming out on top as the most downloaded game of the month, and Grand Theft Auto 5 sitting in second.

Tekken 7 took fourth place in the European download chart, and Star Wars Battlefront 2 took sixth place, both of which have been assisted by promotional discounts for the post-Christmas period.

Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order sits in fifth place, still selling well off of the popularity of the latest movie, though many fans are now beginning to accept that the game could be better than Rise of Skywalker has been.

Minecraft PlayStation 4 Edition is in seventh place in the European chart and ninth in the US chart. Once again this game has been helped by promotional pricing.

The key differences between the European and US download charts are Tekken 7 in fourth, Rocket League in eight, Need for Speed: Heat in ninth, and EA Sports UFC 3 in tenth in the European chart.

In the US chart, NBA 2K20 took fourth place, Rainbow Six Siege sits in sixth, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is in seventh place, Madden NFL 20 is in eighth, and Marvel’s Spider-Man is in tenth. Most of these games have been able to push their way up each chart because of a lack of new releases, as well as promotional pricing. Things will look very different after some new games are taken into account in January.
