According to a special survey from GfK, which covers physical games sales in 19 European countries and Brazil, The Last Of Us Part 2, Animal Crossing: New Horizons, and FIFA 20 are the best-selling games of 2020 so far.
Animal Crossing: New Horizons and FIFA 20 were the best-selling games for seven countries in the first half of 2020. Animal Crossing: New Horizons topped the Australian French, Belgian, Netherland, Swiss, UK, and German charts. FIFA 20 topped the Dutch, Italian, Portuguese, Polish, and Russian charts, as well as the same charts in Spain and Norway.
The Last Of Us Part 2 on the other hand, managed to top charts in three countries. These were Slovakia, Czech Republic, and Sweden. The game was also the second highest-selling in France, Finland, Denmark, Italy, and Germany.
GfK’s data also showed that Grand Theft Auto 5 was the top-selling game in Hungary for the period, as was Minecraft for Finland.
There were some other games that appeared in the top three best-selling games of course. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe appeared in second place in Austria and Switzerland, and NHL 20 was third in Czech Republic and Slovakia. Finally, Forza Horizon 4 was third in Hungary.
GfK also covered Brazil, where The Last Of Us Part 2 was the top-selling game, and eFootball PES 2020 was the second best-selling, with FIFA 20 coming in third.
These sales figures match up with what we’ve been seeing in the UK and US sales charts. The Last Of Us Part 2 has been one of the best-selling games of the year so far, even though it launched in June.
FIFA 20 and Grand Theft Auto 5 are stable sellers, with sales being flat for most of the year. However, Grand Theft Auto 5 does have all sorts of promotions on at the moment, which is probably why it has been selling so well.
Finally, Animal Crossing: New Horizons has benefited greatly from the increase in demand for indoor entertainment. The game launched just as the world went into lockdown, and while it has seen a fall in popularity over the last month, it appears to be bouncing back with every major update.
