Fallout dominates the weekly European charts

The latest hit Hollywood video game adaptation, Amazon’s Fallout series, has resulted in the franchise seeing its best sales in years. Fallout 4 skyrocketed to No. 1 with a 7,500% increase in sales. As amazing as that number is, there are some caveats to it, which make it even more impressive.

For starters, Fallout 4 is available on PlayStation Plus and Microsoft Game Pass, meaning subscribers can play it for free. The majority of the sales, 69%, came on PC, with the rest split between Sony and Microsoft consoles. In addition, every game in the franchise is discounted across all digital store fronts.

Fallout 76, the online survival entry in the franchise, also saw significant sales, climbing to No. 8 for the week. Right behind in the remaining spots of the top ten are Fallout: New Vegas and Fallout 3, giving the classic RPG franchise 4 spots out of the top ten.

That’s not at all, as the Fallout Classic Collection, a bundle that includes the original game, Fallout 2, and the strategy spin-off Fallout: Brotherhood of Steel, made it into the top 50 at No. 47. Individually, Fallout 2 is No. 57 while Fallout is No. 70. Given the success of the series, and what happened last with The Last of Us, it’s safe to assume that Fallout will remain in the top chart for a few more weeks.

Outside of the Microsoft RPG series, the top ten is filled with holdovers from previous weeks, including No. 2, Helldivers 2. The hit sequel continues to find new players and is Sony’s best-seller of the year so far.

EA Sports FC 24 is No. 3, while Grand Theft Auto 5 and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 round out the top 5. The last of those, despite being the worst-selling Call of Duty in years, has managed an incredible tail and has stayed at the top of the chart since its release. Notably, it’s the last one from before Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision, and it remains to be seen what this year’s entry will be like under a new publisher.
