EMEAA sales shaped by Steam summer sale, July 7, 2019

GTA 5

With no new releases for the past week, the EMEAA chart has been dominated by older titles that have seen heavy discounts. The Steam Summer Sale has brought many older titles to the forefront as the marketplace offers them at unbeatable low prices.

Grand Theft Auto 5 pushed all the way to the top spot this week, meaning Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled was left in its wake in second place. Even without digital sales in this chart, Super Mario Maker 2 lands in third place in the chart, though with a lack of new releases this is hardly surprising.

Due to some discrepancies with Take-Two Interactive sales data, which have since been addressed, this week’s chart looks a little out of line with the previous week’s. The issue was caused by huge sales for the Borderlands franchise.

However, with Take-Two Interactive’s data included, it’s possible to see how well the Steam Summer Sale has helped Borderlands 2 and Borderlands The Pre-Sequel perform. High anticipation for Borderlands 3, which launches in September, as well as some new DLC for the game that bridges the gap between the series so far and Borderlands 3, has driven the series to see extremely strong sales.

The effect of the Steam Summer Sale is also evident in the unit sales by platform in this week’s EMEAA chart. When looking at which platform performed best, it’s almost always PC for every game. For example, the PlayStation 4 version of Grand Theft Auto 5 was in fourth place, but the PC version was in third. Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled is in sixth place in the chart this week, and after it are solely PC titles until Need for Speed: Rivals, which is in twenty-third place.

No Xbox One games appear in this week’s EMEAA chart until sixty-seventh place, with Minecraft. Download data from Nintendo could show something different, but at this point it’s impossible to know.

The top ten best-selling games by combined physical and digital units in EMEAA for the last week are as follows.

1. Grand Theft Auto 5
2. Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled
3. Super Mario Maker 2
4. Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel
5. F1 2019
6. Borderlands 2
7. Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege
8. FIFA 19
9. Assassin’s Creed Odyssey
10. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Edition
