Call of Duty and GTA 5 dominated PS4 downloads in 2019

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and Grand Theft Auto 5 were the biggest selling games on the PlayStation 4 download charts for 2019 in the US and Europe respectively.

The US and EU PlayStation Blogs have revealed the most downloaded games for PlayStation 4 in 2019, all data for which comes from the PlayStation Store. Both lists are quite similar, but there are certain differences that set them apart that you may not expect to see.

The first big difference between the charts is the fact that FIFA 20 was the third best selling game in Europe, but didn’t even make it to twentieth place in the US. However, this is reflected by games based on sports that are far more popular in the US. NBA 2K19 is in third in the US chart, NBA 2K20 in fifth, Madden NFL 20 in seventh, and MLB The Show 19 in thirteenth, none of which appear in the EU chart.

There are some other notable differences, such as Borderlands 3 appearing in the US chart and not the EU chart, and Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled doing the opposite. Star Wars Battlefront 2 and Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order appear in both charts, but the games sold much better in the US, where there are clearly more fans of the franchise.

Both blogs revealed that Beat Saber was the best selling PSVR game in each region. The second best selling PSVR game in Europe was Blood & Truth, which is set in London, while in the US it was Superhot VR.

In both regions Apex Legends was the most downloaded free-to-play game, with Fortnite sitting in second, and Dauntless in third for both as well. However, Fortnite came out on top with the best selling DLC and expansions, taking all ten places in both the US and EU charts. The most popular pack across both regions was the Laguna Pack.
