The latest EMEAA chart shows that Assassin’s Creed Unity was the best-selling game across Europe, Middle-East, Africa, Australia, and Asian territories last month. The game launched for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in 2014.
The reason that the game saw such a massive spike in sales was due to some incredible promotional pricing in South Korea and Indonesia. The game became available to purchase for a few cents on Steam in the regions, making it too good to pass up.
Outside of the promotional pricing for Assassin’s Creed Unity, Grand Theft Auto 5 was the best-selling digital game of the month. Physical sales were dominated by FIFA 20, which topped the retail-only chart.
Across the EMEAA territories in February 2020, over 10 million games were sold. While that number is quite considerable, it’s still a drop year-on-year, but only of 6.7 percent. Still, this is a great performance when taking into account the lack of big releases this year compared to the same period last year.
One of the games that launched on the Epic Game Store at this time last year, Metro Exodus, made a return to the digital charts last month. The game finished its 12-month exclusivity deal with the storefront, and was made available on Steam. The game sold best in Russia, placing second in their chart, but also sold well in the Czech Republic and Germany.
The biggest new release of February 2020 was Media Molecule’s PlayStation 4 exclusive, Dreams. The game allows players to create any kind of experience they can imagine with a wide range of tools, and publish them for others to play.
65 percent of all sales last month were generated by digital games. The UK was the top country for purchasing games, followed by Germany and France. The PlayStation 4 dominated with 46 percent of all game sales, and PC came second with 23.7 percent of them.
Ubisoft was the dominant publisher for the month, and not just because of the spike in sales for Assassin’s Creed Unity. The publisher’s other games, Rainbow Six Siege, The Division 2, Just Dance 2020, and South Park: The Fractured But Whole all sold well too.
Nintendo was the top publisher in retail game sales, though they don’t provide digital sales figures so it is unknown how well their games performed digitally. The company held 18.8 percent of all boxed sales for the month. The Switch was also the most successful console for the month.
3.1 million accessories, toys-to-life, and game cards were sold during the month. They generated a total of €94.4 million in revenue, a drop of 5.9 percent year-on-year, and a drop of 7.8 percent year-on-year in units sold.
