Assassin’s Creed 3 for Nintendo Switch listed by Ubisoft

Assassin's Creed 3

Last week Ubisoft announced the release date for Assassin’s Creed 3 Remastered on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. The game had been announced in 2018 both as a standalone title, as well as free content with the season pass for Assassin’s Creed Odyssey. This week Ubisoft expanded the listing to include Nintendo Switch among the platforms the game will be available on, before removing it once again.

Previous to Ubisoft removing this listing it was possible to see Assassin’s Creed 3 Remastered as an upcoming title for Nintendo Switch. The game was only visible when logged into the Ubisoft Club website, a site where players of Ubisoft games can unlock new content with progression earned in others.

Now however the listing has been removed, and it looks as though one of two things has happened. Either this listing was a mistake, and Assassin’s Creed 3 Remastered won’t release for Nintendo Switch, or a port is in the works but a release date cannot be confirmed just yet.

Nintendo have been very good about getting as many triple-A third-party titles onto the Nintendo Switch as they can. Dark Souls Remastered, Doom, and Skyrim are just three exceptional games that have seen a port to the system.

Assassin’s Creed 3 originally released for all major platforms, including the Nintendo Wii U. While the game didn’t sell terribly well for the console it was more because of the small install base for the Wii U, rather than the game’s lack of quality.

If a version of the original game already exists for Nintendo hardware, it stands to reason that it would be easier to port to Nintendo Switch. Of course the fact that so many other games have come to the console shows that it’s far from impossible to port games from other systems anyway.

Previous ports of games to Nintendo Switch have taken longer to release for the console in the past, with the exception of FIFA 19. Mortal Kombat 11 is scheduled to release on the 23rd of April, but won’t see a Switch release until the 10th of May.

Could it be that Ubisoft have accidentally revealed the fact that Assassin’s Creed 3 Remastered is coming to the Nintendo Switch? With a delay on development for ports it seems likely that the port isn’t ready to have a date confirmed just yet, meaning an announcement for the port may just be around the corner.
