The German Trade Association of Interactive Entertainment Software (BIU) is a leading association of entertainment developers in Germany. The association has only 21 members, however they represent over 85% of the market of computer and video games in Germany. The association was founded in 2005. One of the major objectives of BIU is to promote computer and video games among wider audience in Germany, and to support Germany’s growth as a great game destination.
BIU is a co-organizer of Gamescom, which is Europe’s largest video games trade exhibition. It is also organizer of a number of other industry conferences and symposiums, such as Serious Games Conference and German Computer Games Award. The association also monitors implementation of a proper age classification system in Germany, Self-Monitoring of Entertainment Software (USK), which was established in 1994.
BIU is actively involved in fighting against piracy and intellectual Property (IP) rights infringement. The association also provides considerable support to education and responsible use of media.
