Double Eleven, a UK based developer and publisher, is expanding into Malaysia with a new development studio in Kuala Lumpur, which is set to open in Q2 2020.
Double Eleven are best known for providing development and visual solutions that cover the production, development, publication, and live operations of a game from the original concept documents. At the time of writing the company employs around 100 staff at their headquarters the North-East of England in Middlesbrough. The company boasts an attitude that values the work/life balance of their employees, avoiding crunch at all costs and constantly reassessing their internal infrastructure.
The founder and CEO of Double Eleven Lee Hutchinson explained that Malaysia, and Kula Lumpur in particular, is a desirable location for the company to expand to. The region has an emerging games community that is bursting with skill and passion, and the Malaysian government is offering a wealth of support opportunities for game companies. The company’s employee-focused attitude is being used to build Double Eleven Malaysia, ensuring that it will be an enjoyable place to work.
Hutchinson went on to describe how the company’s headquarters will also see some significant investment. More hires will be made here in the UK, and the Malaysian teams will support the work they are doing, with everyone working together across the company’s projects.
Recruitment for Double Eleven Malaysia is expected to begin in February 2020. The company says that there are ample opportunities for highly skilled talent, with access to a number of business and university opportunities. The studio will be filled with management and development teams, and well as a studio head who will run the studio day to day as an autonomous entity.
Double Eleven is currently working with Mojang on the upcoming action adventure game Minecraft Dungeons. The company is currently working on the console versions of the game, as well as the online support that will ultimately allow players to work together across multiple platforms in the same dungeon. This partnership has definitely bolstered the developer, and may be part of the reason that they’re able to grow with this new studio in Malaysia.
