Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled has made an impact in several markets, according to data from European chart supplier GSD. The fun racer, starring Sony’s one-time mascot, topped the combined digital and physical sales charts in Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Australia.
The four markets, handily abbreviated to EMEAA, were relatively untroubled by new releases. Indeed, Crash Team Racing was the only new title to make the top ten this week. It was the standout game, by far, in a relatively quiet period for new games.
The PlayStation 4 version of Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled was the bestselling sku, followed by the Nintendo Switch version then the Xbox One sku. It is notable that the Switch sku still beat the Xbox One sku into third place despite the fact that Nintendo do not announce download sales figures. In effect, the Switch physical sales of Crash Team Racing outperformed the combined physical and digital sales of the game for the Xbox One.
It was a good week for karting on the Switch. As well as the bestselling performance of Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled, Mario Kart 8: Deluxe jumped back up the charts from 21st to 6th. This could be to do with recent promotional offers for the Switch. The console often sells in a bundle with Mario Kart 8: Deluxe and spikes in console sales tend to be reflected in a spike of sales for the game, too.
Tom Clancy’s The Division 2 and The Sims 4 also jumped back into the top ten, from 23rd and 16th respectively to 8th and 9th.
The remainder of the chart consists of games with steady selling power. Few games in history have sold as steadily as Grand Theft Auto V. Incredibly, over five and half years since it’s release the game still sits second in the EMEAA sales charts. Just how happy Rockstar will be about this is debateable. Red Dead Redemption 2, released only last year, is in fifth. The Western game has by no means been a failure, but Rockstar will surely be looking for it to succeed GTAV rather than fall into its shadow.
