According to the latest GSD market report, the Elden Ring is the biggest new IP since the release of The Division back in 2016 as well as the biggest launch title since Call of Duty: Vanguard which launched in November last year.
Elden Ring sold the most copies for PC accounting for 44% of the total sales. The PlayStation 5 version of the game accounted for 27%, Xbox for 16% and lastly, the PlayStation 4 version of the game accounted for 13% of total sales.
The latest release by FromSoftware was the biggest game of February in all major territories except Germany where Pokemon Legends: Arceus was No.1.
Horizon: Forbidden West was the runner-up in February and the biggest PlayStation 5 launch excluding the Call of Duty franchise. Around 59% of total Forbidden West sales were for PlayStation 5, with the remainder being for PlayStation 4.
It is worth mentioning that the PS4 version of the game was slightly cheaper than the PS5 version and players could get a PS5 update for free if they purchased the PS4 version so the data here might be a little skewed.
Pokemon Legends: Arceus took the top spot of single platform sales, barely managing to beat Elden Ring on PC. This is despite the fact that Nintendo doesn’t share digital sales numbers and the data only accounts for physical sales.
Dying Light 2: Stay Human managed to come in at No.5 with 44% of its sales being on PlayStation 5. PlayStation 4 version of the game accounted for 28%, while the Xbox Series and PC sales accounted for 28% and 12% respectively.
The final new title to appear on the list was Total War: Warhammer 3 which managed to come in at No.7.
